UT Orchestra and Dance Students Collaborate in Romance Concert Feb. 25
Join The University of Tampa Orchestra on Tuesday, Feb. 25, for an evening of romantic music. The orchestra and UT dance students will present a concert of music and dance beginning with a pre-concert discussion at 6:45 p.m. in Fletcher Lounge, followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m.
The program includes selections from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story and selections from Tchaikovsky’s ballets Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty.
“My favorite piece on the program is Swan Lake,” said violinist Marlena Noland ’17, a music education major from Brandon, FL. “I feel like Tchaikovsky really captured the enchanting Russian tale of Odette and Prince Siegfried in his music. The audience and musicians are enrapt by the first note, and we are left with the mesmerizing spell of the music that moves us like willing puppets on strings.”
The concert will also feature student dancers under the direction of Susannah LeMarquand, assistant professor of dance.
The UT Orchestra is conducted by Kira Omelchenko, director of orchestral and string studies. Omelchenko and LeMarquand began discussing this collaboration late last spring.
“We wanted to collaborate on pieces that showcase both the dance and music departments at UT,” said Omelchenko.
