University of Tampa Is Named to President’s Honor Roll for Community Service

The University of Tampa has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for general community service. The award recognizes UT for the extraordinary and exemplary community service contributions of its students, faculty and staff in meeting critical community and national needs.

UT, through the PEACE (People Exploring Active Community Experiences) Volunteer Center, actively recruits students, staff and faculty to participate in co-curricular service-learning projects, such as Humane Society, Sustainable Living Project, the annual Into the Streets Orientation Service Project and Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, and alternative break programs. PEACE student staff members organize and facilitate numerous events per semester, including both on- and off-campus volunteer opportunities as well as alternative breaks. During the 2014-2015 academic year, there were three alternative break weekend trips and four trips that were a week or longer.

The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll recognizes institutions of higher education that support exemplary community service programs and raise the visibility of effective practices in campus community partnerships.

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has administered the award since 2006 in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as the American Council on Education, Campus Compact and the Interfaith Youth Core.
