On Wednesday, Oct. 9, three of The University of Tampa's music faculty will perform together for the first time at a recital of music for violin, classical guitar and voice. The recital, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in Plant Hall's Fletcher Lounge, features tenor Charles Dugan, guitarist John Demas and violinist Kira Omelchenko.
On Wednesday, Oct. 9, three of The University of Tampa's music faculty will perform together for the first time at a recital of music for violin, classical guitar and voice. The recital, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in Plant Hall's Fletcher Lounge, features tenor Charles Dugan, guitarist John Demas and violinist Kira Omelchenko.
The program includes selections for violin and guitar by Giuliani and Paganini; vocal and guitar songs by Purcell and Dowland; and folk songs by Stephen Foster. Dugan has sung with the a cappella choir La Chapelle du Hainaut and the Chapelle Choeur de L'église St. Géry of Valenciennes, France. Most recently, he has performed with the Sarasota Artist Series, Gloria Musicae of Sarasota, the Sarasota-Manatee Bach Festival, the Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus and Orchestra, the Sarasota Camerata, Charlotte Symphony and Sarasota's Key Chorale.
Demas has performed vocally and instrumentally playing guitar, mandolin and banjo with the Florida Orchestra, the Sarasota Opera Company and the Joffrey Ballet. He has recorded bouzouki, guitar and vocally with many Greek bands during his career, including Mike Kakias, Pegasus and The Omega Project.
Omelchenko is the director of the UT orchestra and head of the string areas at UT. She has guest conducted the Bulgarian State Opera in Burgas and at the Seasons Music Festival Orchestra in Yakima, Washington. She was a conducting fellow with the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony and assistant to the International Opera Lyric Academy in Viterbo, Italy.
