TPD and UT Partner for Gasparilla

With the Gasparilla Pirate Fest only days away, University of Tampa student leaders have collaborated with the Tampa Police Department to help UT students stay safe this festival season.

On Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m., TPD will present an hour-long seminar on personal safety and the new zero tolerance policy for underage drinking during Gasparilla festivities. The seminar will be held in the Reeves Theater in the Vaughn Center on the UT campus.

TPD Chief Jane Castor, a UT alumna, will kick off a 30-minute personal safety training presentation. The program’s goals are to remind students to be responsible for their own safety, know their surroundings at all times and to be aware and adhere to the buddy system. The program will also include hands-on exercises.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the community and feel that the TPD presentation on campus will be valuable for our students,” said Gina Firth, UT associate dean of students. “The student response to the upcoming program, which is sponsored by Student Government and Delta Sigma Pi, has been very positive.”
