Tampa Men's Lacrosse Among Top Mustache Madness Fundraisers

The University of Tampa men's lacrosse program was one of the major fundraisers for Lacrosse Mustache Madness, marking the third straight year of involvement for the Spartans.

In addition to growing mustaches this fall, the UT men's lacrosse team held an intersquad T-shirt selling competition which resulted in over $4,000 raised, contributing to the more than $108,000 raised nationwide.

Tampa was the top performing NCAA Division II institution, and the lone school from the division to place in the top 10.

Over the past six weeks, lacrosse players from around the country have been growing mustaches of all shapes, sizes and styles to raise awareness and funds to support the HEADstrong Foundation. UT has been among the most active teams since its inception in 2011.

"I feel that this is a very important cause because it brings awareness to male cancer," says head coach Rory Whipple. "I'm proud of our student-athletes for their efforts with this cause. We are committed to the foundation, and believe strongly in giving back to the community. I would also like to personally thank Dalton Jernigan from my staff for all of his efforts in making this another success."

The funds raised through Lacrosse Mustache Madness will directly support blood cancer patients and their families through the essential services offered by the HEADstrong Foundation.

The Top 10 fundraising teams included the following:

  • Syracuse Lacrosse - $23,208.01
  • Harvard University Men's Lacrosse - $15,722.02
  • HEADstrong Texas - $9,724.00
