Students from The University of Tampa will spend this Saturday, Sept. 22, volunteering out in the Tampa Bay community during the University’s annual day of service, Into the Streets. Traditionally held during the first week of classes, the event was postponed this year due to the Republican National Convention. The event this year is open to all students, faculty and staff, and organizers are hoping to have at least 300 participants. Volunteers will be put to work sorting donations, helping the elderly with housecleaning and yard work, and playing with children. “The purpose of this event is to get students at the University into the habit of giving back to the community,” said Heather Ptak ’12, student coordinator with the PEACE Volunteer Center, which coordinates the event each year. “Hopefully this day inspires them to continue to make a difference in their community, both during their time at UT and throughout their life.” Participants will volunteer their services at the following local agencies:
