On Saturday, Oct. 6, The University of Tampa Wind Ensemble will perform a multimedia production featuring live music from popular movies synched with video and lighting effects. This annual concert, dubbed “A Night at the Movies VI,” will take place in the Cass Gym on campus and begins at 7:30 p.m.
This year’s show will feature the “best of” previous years’ performances, including music and video from
Pirates of the Caribbean,
The Simpsons,
King Kong,
Fantasia (“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”),
The Lion King,
Lady and the Tramp, and
Superman.
The UT Wind Ensemble has 40 members. “They are extremely capable musicians and sensitive to direction, which are traits absolutely necessary as we synch the video and music live at the concert,” said Jeffrey Traster, director of bands and music education, who will conduct the show. Traster credits John Stepro, director of media services, as the “master behind the visuals,” coordinating all the video and lighting for the concert.
In Cass Gym the band will be centered on the gym floor and flanked by two large screens (rear-projection). This should provide excellent visibility for the audience, according to Traster.
The Wind Ensemble will partner with UT Media Services, Student Productions and the Office of Student Success for the show.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Traster at (813) 257-3527 or
