The University of Tampa 2013-2014 faculty colloquium series begins with a presentation by Kacy Tillman, assistant professor of English, on Friday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m. in the Sykes College of Business, Room 131. A reception will follow the presentation in the lobby.
Tillman will present, “The Epistolary Salon: Female Letter-Writing during the American Revolution,” in which she argues that writing letters was a way for the 18th century American female to engage in the American Revolution at a time when they could not fight, vote or legislate.
Two additional presentations are planned as part of the series. All presentations will be held in the Sykes College of Business, Room 131 at 3 p.m.:
- On Friday, Nov. 15, Simon Schuler, assistant professor of physics, will present “Worlds Apart: The Discovery and Characterization of Extrasolar Planets.”
- On Friday, Feb. 7, Evan Chipouras, associate professor of biology, will speak on “Fostering Global Food Security through Sustainable Small-scale Fisheries: Regional Perspectives from West-Central Africa, South America and Southeast Asia.”
The annual colloquium series provides an opportunity for UT faculty members to share scholarly work with the UT community. Participants are chosen to present in the series by the provost and the Faculty Development Committee. All tenure and tenure-track faculty are eligible to propose a colloquium, and an honorarium is awarded.
These presentations are primarily intended for the UT community. Admission is free for faculty, staff and students.
