Rebecca J. White, professor of management and the James W. Walter
Distinguished Chair of Entrepreneurship at The University of Tampa, was
recently named 2010 BusinessWoman of the Year in the education category
by the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
White was one of
three finalists in the education category and was chosen for the
designation by an independent panel of judges.
“This is a major
accomplishment for Professor White and illustrates her immediate mark on
the Tampa business community,” said Frank Ghannadian, dean of UT’s
Sykes College of Business. “Rebecca has worked hard supporting students
in her first year at The University of Tampa, and the award is well
deserved.”
White joined UT last August. In the last year she has
revised the entrepreneurship curriculum, started a series that brings
successful entrepreneurs and advisors to campus and partnered with
Emerge Tampa Bay, the young professionals group of the Greater Tampa
Chamber of Commerce.
Prior to coming to UT, White served as
professor of management and director of the Fifth Third Bank
Entrepreneurship Institute at Northern Kentucky University, where she
built a program that was rated among the nation’s top 50 by the Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine. She also founded a business in 2006 that focuses on risk management.
Last
February White was awarded the President’s Distinguished Service Award
by the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship
(USASBE).
TBBJ has recognized outstanding businesswomen in the Tampa Bay area since 2004.
