Composer Premieres New Works at Concert
David Clark Isele has premiered works in Carnegie Hall, in London and on
Swiss National Radio. But he said his upcoming concert, “Supernal
Temptations,” is the only concert exclusively composed of works by him.
The composer-in-residence at UT will premiere five new pieces at a concert on Wednesday, Sept. 29. The free concert is at 7:30 p.m. in Fletcher Lounge in Plant Hall on the UT campus.
The concert will feature contemporary music in varying styles and will serve as a compendium of Isele’s works. In addition to the new pieces, the hour-long concert will feature works from the last four years, including chamber music for piano quartet, small choral ensemble, piano duet and solo piano. The new compositions will include one each for viola, flute, trumpet, bassoon, soprano and two pianos.
“In this age where there are thousands of musical styles available, I choose to compose what I think audiences will appreciate, and, as importantly, performers will appreciate,” says Isele, who has composed more than 200 pieces. “I don't think there is an extremely ‘Isele’ common trait, although my students have told me upon hearing one of my tunes for the first time, they suspected it was composed by me.”
