Working Florida nurses can now start their coursework toward a doctorate
from Case Western Reserve University before stepping foot on the
Cleveland campus.
This spring, The University of Tampa and the
Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve entered
into a partnership agreement allowing nurses to complete up to four
courses in the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree on the UT campus. UT
will provide classroom space to Case Western Reserve faculty and
students enrolled in the DNP program for the purpose of delivering four
intensive courses, which take place over the course of two weeks or
three-day weekends. The program is designed to be convenient for working
professionals.
A cohort of 10 to 15 students is expected to
start the program in fall 2009. UT has agreed to provide support staff,
including a site coordinator, and other resources for Case Western
Reserve faculty. Case Western Reserve will provide the faculty to teach
the courses. Students will travel to Cleveland for the remaining
courses, delivered in intensive sessions, and to defend their final
project.
While Case Western Reserve will evaluate and admit
applicants, UT admissions staff and nursing faculty will help recruit
incoming and existing UT MSN students to the program, as well as MSN
alumni and local advanced practice nurses.
