Academic Research Leads to Power Gains for Men’s Basketball Team

Under the guidance of Jordan Joy ’12 and Assistant Professor Jacob Wilson, the UT men’s basketball team completed a five-week study to increase the athletes’ power, strength and endurance.

Using resistance bands during their workouts and personalized training schedules, along with high-tech equipment available in the Health Sciences and Human Performance lab, the research team was able to increase the rate that the athletes have to develop force. In addition, the basketball team was able to gain a tremendous amount of muscle in a short period of time.

To see their training efforts pay off on the court, watch the basketball team‘s season opener in the Martinez Athletics Center this Saturday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. against Palm Beach Atlantic. Tickets are $5 and free with valid Spartan ID. For a full listing of this season's games, view the calendar.
