500 UT Students Volunteer at a Dozen Organizations

On Friday, Aug. 27, students from The University of Tampa will help more people than ever during the 11th annual Into the Streets volunteer event. The PEACE Volunteer Center has expanded the list of organizations that will benefit from the day of service, which includes more than 500 students, faculty and staff going into the community and volunteering, doing things like cleaning apartments for the elderly, cleaning up local parks and sorting food donations to the Metropolitan Ministries. The goal of this program is for incoming students to realize the importance of giving back to the community and to continue volunteering throughout their time at UT and beyond. All incoming students, as well as faculty and staff, are invited to participate. The volunteers will spend from 1-5:30 p.m. providing community service to the following 12 local agencies:

    Scrubbing kitchen floors, scouring bathtubs, washing windows and performing other tasks that are difficult for elders

    Registering students, going door-to-door to promote the new after-school program at the Oaks at Riverview Apartments on North Florida Avenue and painting a mural.
