Richard Mathews has written numerous books on the subject of fantasy and science fiction, including Fantasy: The Liberation of Imagination; Lightning from a Clear Sky: Tolkien, the Trilogy, and the Silmarillion; The Clockwork Universe of Anthony Burgess; Aldiss Unbound: The Science Fiction of Brian W. Aldiss; and Worlds beyond the World: The Fantastic Vision of William Morris. His poetry has appeared in many literary magazines and anthologies, and he has published two collections of poems, A Mummery and Numbery.
