Career Specialties
Dormer is interested in academic pursuits related to chemistry, science and STEM education, biochemistry and inorganic chemistry. In particular, she seeks to develop strategies that maximize learning in the science and STEM fields and that prepare students for their future careers and academic endeavors.
Professional and Community Activities
Dormer's research activity and recent work in the area of chemistry, science, and STEM education primarily occurred via her dissertation work and presentations at professional, national and international conferences. She presented her dissertation thesis at the national meeting of the American Education Research Association, where her investigation into the impact of participation of interscholastic athletics on the STEM achievement of underrepresented students was discussed and identified as having promise for further research and investigation.
In addition to her doctoral work, she presented sessions on best practices in science and STEM education at the International Society for Technology and Education’s (ISTE) international conference, the SmartBrief STEM Summit national conference, and the Texas Instruments T^3 international conference, among others.
At each of her most recent school district and universities, she was heavily involved in athletics and coaching swimming, student leadership groups and advising, tutoring, faculty leadership, and advisement of student STEM organizations and competitions.
