Career Specialties

Nathan Connealy's research interests include the spatial and temporal analysis of crime, quantitative methodologies and research designs and police technology. Before entering academia, he worked as a crime analyst for several midwestern metropolitan police departments.

Professional and Community Activities

Connealy’s current research activities work to bridge scholarship into the practitioner realm. He holds several active partnerships with law enforcement agencies in Chicago, Kansas City and Newark to implement hot spot policing approaches and evaluate current place-based strategies, to integrate emerging technologies like body-worn cameras and gunshot detection technology and to innovate around the use of quantitative data. He also engages students in the research process by chairing graduate thesis' and participating in undergraduate summer research programming. His scholarship has appeared in peer-reviewed outlets including Criminology, Criminology and Public Policy andJustice Quarterly among other journals.

Connealy is also the associate director for training and consultation at the newly formed Criminology Institute for Research and Training (CIRT) at The University of Tampa. In this capacity, he works to engage both academics and practitioners in relevant skill-building seminars including data management, data analysis and crime mapping techniques.

In addition to professional service, Connealy is actively involved in several campus and local initiatives. He sponsors student organizations at The University of Tampa like the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Wrestling Club, as well as serves on several alumni groups at his alma mater, Simpson College.
