Career Specialties
Aljahani is an applied economist and uses modern applied econometric methods in her current research, which focuses on issues in macroeconomics, financial economics and public policy. Besides research, her passion is to help train, empower and inspire younger generations.
Professional and Community Activities
Prior to pursuing her Ph.D., Aljahani was a financial literacy coach and a program supervisor at ACCESS (The Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services). In this work, she conducted financial workshops and developed materials and curricula involving budgeting, savings, banking products, credit building and more. She also participated in writing grant proposals to retain current funding and obtain new funding, developing relationships with local financial institutions and community organizations. Part of her charge was to assist low and middle-income households, including underrepresented and immigrant populations, to become financially stable. She played a significant role in expanding the program to serve more clients in multiple locations.
Aljahani's current research uses modern applied econometric methods to understand how households build wealth and explore ways to reduce economic inequality. Her goal is to identify the issues and factors, find evidence for different theories and hypotheses, and introduce ideas and solutions that mitigate the adverse effects of all these factors on the economy.
Aljahani has presented her research at the Western Economic Association International (WEAI) conference in June 2021, the Eastern Economic Association (EEA) conference in February 2021 and the Southern Economic Association (SEA) conference in November 2020. She also presented a research poster at the American Economic Association (AEA/ASSA) conference in January 2021.
