UT to Stage Unique Take on The Wizard of Oz Story Dec. 9–10

Come see a fresh take on The Wizard of Oz story when The University of Tampa stages City of Emeralds: A Live Radio Play on Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10. Both performances begin at 8 p.m. in the Reeves Theater on the second floor of the Vaughn Center and are free and open to the public.

Adapted and directed by Robert Gonzalez, UT associate professor of speech and theatre, from the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, City of Emeralds provides an interesting new spin on this classic story. The production will feature 12 UT students who will bring the story of Dorothy, Toto and all of your favorite characters to life through the art of spoken word performance.

The production is the main focus of UT’s Spoken Word Performance Ensemble course (THR 244). Students audition for the production, and those who are cast in the show are enrolled in the course for up to one credit.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the show will run approximately 60 minutes. For more information, contact Gonzalez at (813) 257-3854 or rmgonzalez@ut.edu.
