PNC Bank Concert Series Continues with “Jazz at the Organ” March 22
On Sunday, March 22, jazz organist Lutz Felbick will display the versatility of the Dobson pipe organ in The University of Tampa’s Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values when he performs with saxophonist Heribert Leuchter as part of the PNC Bank Concert Artist Series. The program begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The unusual program, which features jazz on the pipe organ, is comprised of original works and improvisations by both Felbick and Leuchter.
Felbick is a classically trained organist, conductor and jazz pianist. He serves on the faculty of the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf, Germany, and has numerous performance credits in all of his performing genres. Felbick holds a doctorate in historical musicology.
Leuchter is a sax player, composer and music producer. He works as a musical director in theatre and musical theatre, and is the founder and director of various ensembles, including the LUX-Orchestra and the Heribert Leuchter Trio. In addition, he produces for his own record label dedicated to jazz, LUXaries Records.
As a duo, the two have opened new doors to using the pipe organ as an instrument in jazz. Felbick has named this project JATO (Jazz at the Organ), and this performance is part of their first joint tour of the U.S. Their collaborations are rooted in musical impressionism and various streams of classic and contemporary jazz.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m.; seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is available on campus, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd.

On Friday, April 17, a panel of four industry professionals will present the obstacles and challenges faced in today’s business environment related to whistleblowing.
The panel will be held at The University of Tampa Sykes College of Business, Room 234, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. This “Hot Seat Event” is sponsored by UT’s Center for Ethics. The public is invited, and there is no charge for the event.University of Tampa film students will screen their work at the first annual Moon Dance Film Festival at UT’s Reeves Theater on Tuesday, April 14, at 8:30 p.m.
Aaron Walker, assistant professor of communication, said the festival is an opportunity for UT students both to screen their work and to curate the best work of their peers.“It’s fully student-run, so it shows how deeply the students care about celebrating the strong work of their peers, but also shows how much desire there is for our FMA students to create venues of success for one another,” Walker said. “It’s a terrific collaboration, and will be a terrific party for film. Plus, the movies are great.”
