The annual Family Weekend kicks into gear Friday, Oct. 9 with events showcasing the campus community and surrounding Tampa Bay area. The events begin at noon on Friday and run through the evening of Saturday, Oct. 10.

The weekend includes a family barbecue, UT women’s and men’s Soccer games, free, 10-minute massages sponsored by Student Productions, a Musical Theatre Production “Songs for a New World” and the seventh annual Family Weekend Golf Tournament at The Eagles Golf Course in Odessa. Organizers say the UT Family Weekend should be fun and diverse.

“During Family Weekend, families get a real taste of what campus life is like for students,” said Stephanie Russell Holz, associate dean of students and director of the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement. “It is a time for students to share their UT spirit with their families.”

The popular Ghost Tour will give families the opportunity to find out if Plant Hall is haunted. The trademark minarets open for an exclusive climb to the top for a birds-eye view of the town. A lunch cruise aboard the Yacht Starship provides water views of Tampa Bay.

The Family Association will host a panel discussion of campus leaders from all aspect of campus life from Safety and Security to Residence Life and Dining Services. They will be available to take any and all questions from parents in the Reeves Theater at 3 p.m. on Friday.

“It’s a great opportunity for parents to get answers on anything that may have come up since the start of the school year,” said Jay Hardwick, director of Alumni and Parent Relations.

Whether it’s taking a self-defense or yoga class or going to the uncensored Poetry Slam in the Rathskellar sponsored by The Quilt, the University’s literary magazine, UT is opening up its doors wide for Family Weekend.
