Students outside of the library

We know that paying for the cost of attending college, textbooks, daily expenses and having extra money for fun can all add up. For these reasons, we have additional funding opportunities available to active Success Scholars (those who attend events regularly throughout the year) AND who have unmet financial need. Scholars can also utilize the Financial Aid Office and iGrad for financial support.

Below are the different financial support options available in the Success Scholars Program:

Alternative Breaks Program: The PEACE Volunteer Center offers an Alternative Breaks program that allows participants to travel outside of the Tampa Bay area to serve others. Each trip focuses on a social issue including cultural preservation, animal rights, domestic violence, education and environmental conversation. Success Scholars can apply for funding to help cover the cost of attending the program for which they are selected.

Calculators: Not having the proper tools for a class can be a barrier to success. Many students find themselves enrolled in classes that require the use of a scientific or graphing calculator. Success Scholars can check out a calculator for the entire semester. Scholars can request a calculator in the Textbook Funding application.

Success Scholars Work-Study: Based on eligibility determined by the FAFSA, a Success Scholar may be awarded Success Scholars Work-Study (SSWS). Although work-study funds do not reduce the balance of tuition, scholars can use the money earned in their paycheck towards the expenses of their choice. Staff from Student Transition and Persistence are available to assist scholars with the employment process, which includes submitting a resume to Workday. Scholars are responsible for acquiring a job and earning the funds. At the end of each fall and spring semester, scholars with SSWS are required to submit a reflection about the Spartan Ready competencies they developed at work.

Summer Grants: Funding is available to support eligible Success Scholars enrolled in summer classes at The University of Tampa. Please check with Student Transition and Persistence to determine if you are eligible.

Textbook Funding: Textbooks for classes can be very expensive! Each semester up to 70 scholars receive funding to cover the cost of up to two textbooks. Scholars must have completed at least one semester at The University of Tampa. We collaborate with the UT Bookstore to make this a smooth process for Success Scholars. Applications are sent out towards the start of each fall and spring semester, typically after scholars have finalized their class schedule.
