Performance Opportunities

Student theatrical productions take place at David Falk Theatre, a fully-equipped, 1,000-seat historic theater built in 1928. There is no seniority; freshmen are allowed to audition for all productions in their first semester. UT’s numerous performance opportunities include:

Main Stage Productions

The University of Tampa celebrates musical theatre and the performing arts through four main-stage productions each year: two musicals and two traditional shows. Auditions, which are held during the second week of classes, are open to all students on campus. Performing arts majors are required to audition for all University musical theatre productions, while those pursuing minors are encouraged to audition.

Recent musical productions have included 110 in the Shade, Little Women, The Fantasticks, and Pippin. Recent theatre productions have included The Women, The Increased Difficulty of Concentration, The Shape of Things, and A New Way to Pay Old Debts.

Cabaret and Experimental/Revue Productions

The department also sponsors one musical cabaret and one experimental/revue theatre production each year. Experimental/revue productions have included an evening of short plays by Jane Martin, the broad farce Run for Your Wife, and an evening of contemporary 10-minute plays.

Cabaret auditions are held during the first week of class; students rehearse on Friday afternoons in preparation for a final performance at the end of the semester. Cabarets take place in the state-of-the-art Allen N. Reeves Theater on the second floor of the Vaughn Center. Each one has a theme (i.e., composer, topic, or time period). Recent cabarets have presented the music of Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Godspell, Wicked); William Finn (Falsettoland, Elegies); and songs from the ‘30s and ‘40s.

Spring Dance Concert and Dance Happening

The Spring Dance Concert showcases choreography by faculty and guest artists and includes styles ranging from ballet and modern to jazz, tap and hip hop. Twice a year, Dance Happenings feature student-choreographed works performed at sites around campus. An Evening of Experimental Dance is also performed in the fall followed by Dancing with Winds in December. All students are welcome to audition.
