Family Orientation

Parents and families are invited to attend UT's orientation activities.

Fall 2012 (August)

Information for families with a student starting fall semester.

Schedule Summary:
All residence halls will be open from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19, to allow resident students to drop off personal belongings in their rooms. Overnight stays in the residence halls will not be permitted on Sunday, Aug. 19, and keys will not be issued until check-in on Monday, Aug. 20.

The official program for parents and families begins on Monday, Aug. 20, at check-in. Students and parents check in at assigned times from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (See Student Orientation Schedule for your students assigned time. You may spend time waiting if you arrive before your assigned time.) Upon arrival, one family member should check in at the Music Room in Plant Hall. A final Family Orientation Schedule will be available at that time.

Please note that if you are a parent or family member of an international student (studying on a visa), international students should arrive on Sunday, Aug. 19. A special international student orientation program will be held Monday, Aug. 20, and Tuesday, Aug. 21, to which you are also invited. International students also are expected to attend all new student orientation activities Thursday, Aug. 21, through Saturday, Aug. 25.

Throughout the day on Monday, Aug. 20, parents and families are free to help students settle into their rooms, tour the campus or museum, pay outstanding bills, etc. Lunch and dinner are provided. There is also a special Family Welcome Reception at the Hyatt Regency (Downtown Tampa) from 7-8 p.m. 

On Tuesday, Aug. 21, parents are invited to meet key administrative staff and attend presentations on Student Services, Residence Life, First Year Learning Experience, Career Services, Academic Center for Excellence, and Student Health and Counseling. These programs are held at the Hyatt Regency. Lunch will be provided. Families may also return to campus to bid their students farewell.

Registration fees are $85 per non-student family member and include all programs and meals during the Family Orientation period. Last day to receive a refund of these fees is Friday, Aug. 10. Spring 2012 (January)

The official program for parents and families begins on Friday, Jan. 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. An optional breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. Please note, if you are a parent or a family member of an international student (studying on a visa), international students should arrive on Wednesday, Jan. 11. A special international student orientation program will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, to which you are invited. International students also are expected to attend all new student orientation activities Thursday, Jan. 12, through Friday, Jan. 13.
