Department of Music

Welcome to The University of Tampa Department of Music. At UT, students may engage in music studies as broad as their interests. UT's music degrees offer the flexibility to blend elements of musical styles, performance, technology, education, business, musicology, arranging and composition in ways that best serve professional goals and interests within programs certified by the National Association of Schools of Music. UT’s 32-member music faculty are a distinguished and dedicated group of performing musicians, composers and scholars who share their students love of music.

The UT Department of Music sponsors over 80 events each year including the acclaimed Sykes Chapel Artist Series that features guest musicians of international repute, the UT Minaret Concert Series that features our outstanding music faculty, master classes by visiting artist/performers, and inspiring concerts and recitals by UT music students. We routinely review our events, programs, website and methods of communication. Suggestions and words of support are welcome via email at music@ut.edu.

While UT Music offers studies and performance opportunities for almost everyone, we cater to students preparing for an increasing variety of careers in music. Often, prospective students have both vocal and instrumental talents, and a few double on instruments they wish to continue playing in college. Pursuit of every student's array of talents is encouraged at UT through participation in multiple ensembles and studio lessons. Additionally, students may have a variety of academic and music-related career interests and wish to attain a minor or double major in music and another field. UT students are pursuing music degrees with minors in complementary fields such as business or graphic design. Popular double-majors are music/psychology, music/biology and music/film. These options support students’ broad interests and ambitions.

On behalf of The University of Tampa music faculty and staff,  we encourage students to visit our campus and request an audition for entrance as a music major or minor.
