John Capouya

John CapouyaJohn Capouya teaches journalism and nonfiction writing at The University of Tampa. He also serves as guest faculty at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg.

He was previously a features editor at Newsweek, New York Newsday, The New York Times and SmartMoney magazine, among other publications and websites.

Capouya, who has a master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, regularly contributes feature stories and book reviews to the Tampa Bay Times, Fortune.com and other outlets.

His current book project is Florida Soul, a history of rhythm and blues music in that state, to be published by the University Press of Florida. His previous nonfiction book was Gorgeous George, a biography of the flamboyant wrestler and 1940s/50s pop culture figure, published by HarperCollins.
