For College of Business (COB) Undergraduates
The global economy is at our doorstep.
The U.S. is the largest importing and exporting country with the highest gross domestic product in the world. Headlines ring of escalating trends in cross-border corporate merger activity, global outsourcing patterns, heightened importing and exporting activity, global franchising expansion, regional economic integration, global oil dependency, international supply chain management and the capitalization of global markets. With this comes a tremendous responsibility to produce graduates with a global mindset.
To meet the ongoing challenges of globalization, the John H. Sykes College of Business offers seven international business majors.
Step One: Declare your international business (IBS) major.
Select any academic major in the College of Business. Choose from accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, management, marketing or management information systems. To declare their preferred IBS major, students must visit UT's Academic Advising Office in Plant Hall, Rm. 308.
Step Two: Take your major and internationalize it by satisfying the requirements in the following four domains:
- International Business Core Courses (9 credit hours)
IBS majors must complete the following core courses:
IBS 397 Survey of International Business
IBS 398 Global Organizational Behavior
IBS Elective International Business Elective - Foreign Language Requirement
Students must demonstrate proficiency in foreign language by passing an examination or by completing the Intermediate II (2) course in the language with a grade of "C" or better.
A TOEFL score of 550 or better, 213 [c.b.t.] or 79-90 [i.b.t.] meets this requirement for non-English speakers. - Global Knowledge Courses (8 credit hours)
To better understand the world, students are instructed to complete globally focused electives offered through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. - Education Abroad Experience
Students may choose to:
Study abroad for a summer, semester or year*
Enroll in a UT Travel Course
Complete an internship abroad
-or-
Fulfill community-based service learning abroad
At least one education-abroad experience for academic credit is required and must be approved by the International Programs Office.

Step Three: Show the world what international competency can achieve.
Upon completion of these requirements, undergraduate IBS majors will earn a bachelor's of science degree in international business and accounting, international business and economics, international business and entrepreneurship, international business and finance, international business and management, international business and marketing or international business and management information systems on their official UT transcript.
