ICUF Senior Academic and Student Affairs Officers,

The University of Tampa is excited to host the spring meeting of senior academic and student affairs officers at Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida on April 5, 2013. We have planned an engaging day of networking and information sharing in an effort to compliment the work we each conduct on our individual campuses.

10 – 10:45 a.m. Rain and Republicans:  How a University Began the Fall Semester, presented by Joe Sclafani, Interim Dean of  College of Social Science, Math & Education and Linda Devine, Vice President of Operations and Planning

The presenters will review the year-long process and preparations made by the University of Tampa in anticipation of the city's hosting of the Republican National Convention in August, 2012.  The fall 2012 semester began the same day as the RNC and tropical storm Isaac arrived in Tampa.  University officials met regularly to consider impacts upon student move-in, orientation programs, student safety, faculty and staff safety, campus security, faculty and teaching impacts and other related issues. Specifics related to preparations, planning and implementing safety protocols are reviewed.  Lessons learned and applications for other schools are presented.

1 – 2:30 p.m. Musical demonstration, followed by a campus tour, Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values

Haig Mardirosian, Dean of the College of Arts and Letters and professor of music at The University of Tampa will introduce the renowned organ in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values to the group. Dr. Mardirosian has earned international standing as a composer, conductor, concert organist and recording artist. He has performed in important international festivals and has 20 recordings to his credit on various labels in the United States and Europe.
2:45 – 3:30 p.m.  Academic and student affairs networking time

Space will be available for attendees to have informal conversations regarding specific topics of interest with other attendees. This time can also be used to follow-up on discussion topics from the morning breakout session.
