Master of Arts in Teaching

What is required for admission to the MAT program?

The MAT program is designed for college graduates with demonstrated skills and competencies in their fields. The following is a list of requirements for the program:

  • Bachelor’s degree in content area of study
  • Completed application
  • Passing scores on two of the three Florida Teacher Certification Examinations: General Knowledge Test and Subject Area Examinations
  • Two reference forms
  • Résumé
  • Personal statement addressing why the applicant is seeking a teaching career
  • TOEFL score for applicants whose primary language is not English


Note: Application and admittance to The University of Tampa Master of Arts in Teaching program is not a guarantee of employment from either Florida school districts or The University of Tampa. Full-time employment is based on successfully completing the school district interview and hiring process.

Master of Education

What is required for admission to the M.Ed. program?
  • Must hold a current Florida Professional Teaching Certificate, bachelor’s degree in an area of education, statement of eligibility for Florida Professional Teaching Certificate or professional teaching certificate from another state
  • GPA of at least a 3.0 from an accredited college or university
  • Completed application
  • Application fee of $40
  • Two reference forms
  • Résumé
  • Personal statement addressing the reason for seeking an advanced degree
  • TOEFL for those applicants whose primary language is not English

M.S. in Instructional Design and Technology

What is required for admission to the M.S. in Instructional Design and Technology program?
  • Completed application
  • Application fee of $40
  • Official transcripts for all previous college work received directly from each institution
  • Two reference forms
  • Résumé
  • Personal statement addressing the reason for seeking an advanced degree
  • TOEFL for those applicants whose primary language is not English
  • Interview (optional)
