Practicum Overview for All Department of Education Programs
1) B.S. Elementary Education / ESOL
EDU 309 Practicum I (with Seminar)
EDU 319 Practicum II (with seminar)
EDU 409 Practicum III (with seminar)
EDU 413 Practicum IV
N.B.:
i. EDU 309 Practicum I (with Seminar) is an observational focused practicum (every Friday morning every week throughout the semester)
ii. EDU 319 Practicum II (with seminar) is the ESOL-based practicum (two mornings every week, 7:45- 9:45am, Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the semester)
iii. EDU 409 Practicum III (with seminar) is group and classroom focused practicum (two mornings every week, 7:45-12:30, Tuesdays and Thursdays, throughout the semester)
iii. EDU 413 Practicum IV has a separate seminar which is EDU 410 Practicum IV Seminar. EDU 413 is the final internship which is full-time in schools every day, all day for the full semester.2) B.S. N.B.:
i. The Secondary Math, Biology and Social Science 6-12 programs follow the same practicum schedule. ii. Each of the above has three (3) practicum experiences. iii. Each of the above do not do EDU 319 which is the ESOL-focused practicum. However, the secondary students are purposefully placed in highly diverse schools for EDU 409 Practicum III3) B.S. N.B.:
i. The Secondary English 6-12 program has four (4) practicums (unlike the above 6-12 programs). This is because the Secondary English candidates graduate with their ESOL Endorsement as well.
ii. EDU 301 is the ESOL-based practicum (two mornings every week, 7:45-9:45am, Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the semester)
iii. EDU 401 Practicum II is group and classroom focused practicum (two mornings every week, 7:45- 12:30, Tuesdays and Thursdays, throughout the semester)
iv. EDU 407 Practicum III is the Secondary English majors’ final practicum internship. Candidates are full-time in schools every day, all day for the full semester.
v. The Unit uses the EDU 409 Practicum III & EDU 413 Practicum IV forms to assess the English Education Majors’ EDU 401 Practicum II and EDU 407 Practicum III respectively. 4) B.S. Physical Education K-12

N.B.:
i. The B.S. Physical Education K-12 program has four (4) practicums. ii. EDU 329 Practicum I and EDU 377 are focused on Elementary P.E. iii. EDU 425 Practicum III is focused on middle and secondary school P.E. iv. EDU 413 is the P.E. majors’ final practicum internship. Candidates are full-time in schools every
day, all day for the full semester. v. The Unit uses the EDU 409 Practicum III form to assess the Physical Education Majors’ EDU 425
Practicum III.
Prior to graduation and as part of the requirements for successful completion of the internship, students must successfully pass both the CLAST (taken prior to July 1, 2002) OR the GK (taken after July 1, 2002) AND the Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE).
Graduation from The University of Tampa's approved teacher education program satisfies eligibility criteria for a Florida teaching certificate and an initial teaching certificate in most other states.
