Career Specialties:Dr. Cindy King specializes in creative writing, with an emphasis in poetry, and the teaching of composition and writing. Her research and writing interests include specific focus on the poetry of Eastern Europe and Latin America. In addition to first-year writing, she has taught American and world literature, women’s and multiethnic literature, and American film.

Professional and Community Activities:

Dr. King has presented papers on creative writing pedagogy at the Association of Writers and Writing Programs Conference. The International Writing Center Association Annual Conference has provided her with an opportunity to present her research on developmental English instruction and online tutoring. She also has had experience with service learning, conducting poetry workshops for at-risk youth at the PACE Center for Girls as part of the Runaway With Words Program. Her work has appeared in numerous journals, most recently in Barrow Street (forthcoming), The North American Review, The Cimarron Review, American Literary Review, and Black Warrior Review. She is currently preparing a book-length collection of poetry for publication.

Honors and Awards:

Dr. King has recently received full scholarships to the New York State Summer Writers Institute and the Key West Literary Seminar and Workshop. Her poems have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
