Dr. Sweeney has written extensively on literature and the cinema, focusing on the silent era, and is preparing a book on Buster Keaton. He also has written on the adaptation of Hemingway fiction into film, the films of Jonathan Demme and the aesthetics of post-modernism. He is a guest editor for the journal Film and Philosophy.
