The event is open to all family businesses, professionals, policy makers and scholars interested in the well-being and success of family businesses within Florida. For three consecutive years, winners at the Florida Family Business of the Year Awards have proceeded to win awards at the National Family Business of the Year Awards.

The Family Business Student Award is sponsored by the Florida Family Business Forum, which annually provides a $1,000 award to a College of Business undergraduate student who is a member of a family that owns or operates a family business in the United States and has a continuing interest in family business management. The student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate leadership qualities.

  • Small Business (under 100 employees)
  • Large Business (100 or more employees)
Criteria
  • Innovativeness of business strategies and practices
  • Understanding and preparation for succession planning
  • Expression of positive family values in the business
  • Quality of family-business linkage
  • Contributions to the surrounding community and industry
  • Number of generations and family members actively involved (except for new firms)
  • Overall business growth and viability
Rules
  • A firm may be nominated by anyone, including employees and business associates.
  • Self-nominations are encouraged.
  • All family businesses headquartered in Florida are eligible.
  • Nominations will remain active for three years.

Sponsors

Sponsors provide advisory services in critical areas such as law, accounting, estate planning, retirement, finance, insurance, marketing and other issues of importance. Through panels at the award events individual consultation, family business owners have access to experts on a variety of subjects.
