Student Employment Opportunities

Note: All applicants must qualify for Federal Work Study or recipients of Success Scholars Work Study.

The Office of Information Technology depends on UT students for computer lab and student help desk operation. Students can choose from three different positions: ITS Help Desk Assistant, ITS Lab Assistant and ITS Lab Technician. Jobs within ITS allow students to work around their class schedules, give them the latest knowledge of software and technology, and help them gain customer service experience.

All employment applications must be submitted to Hire UT. Applicants who are chosen will be contacted via email.   

After an ITS student employee is hired, students must participate in the IT in-service orientation and training program. 

Students can serve in the following positions:
  

 ITS Student Lab Assistant

  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Change toner, clear paper jams and add paper as needed in lab printers
  • Report computer issues in the labs to student lab techs
  • Assist students with login, email and general computer usage questions
  • Report printer issues to outside vendors and student lab techs for repair as needed
  • Escalate account password and other information technology and security issues to the Student Help Desk and\or Office of Information Security
  • Perform other duties as needed or directed

   ITS Student Help Desk Assistant

  • Assist students with installing and troubleshooting computer and software related issues
  • Reset student email and domain account passwords
  • Assist students with anti-virus installation and virus removal
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Change toner cartridges, clear paper jams and add paper as needed in lab printers
  • Report issues in the labs to student lab techs
  • Assist students with network connectivity and SafeConnect issues
  • Report printer issues to outside vendors for repair as needed
  • Escalate issues to faculty and staff help desk
  • Provide security, cleaning and general maintenance of the Jaeb labs to include throwing out trash, pushing in chairs, etc.
  • Perform other duties as needed or directed
     

  ITS Lab Technician

  • Install, troubleshoot, service and repair personal computers and related PC software
  • Connect computers, printers and mobile devices to network
  • Assist and advise students with computer related problems
  • Escalate account password and other information technology and security issues to the student help desk and\or Office of Information Security 
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to lift up 40-50 lbs
  • Ability to work in tight spaces requiring stooping, bending and getting beneath desks
  • Re-image lab computers as necessary
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and repair issues on computers, printers and software
  • Report printer issues to outside vendors for repair as needed
  • Perform software updates to lab computers
  • Perform other duties as needed or directed
