Dr. Hulathduwa has worked on oyster reef ecology in the Gulf of Mexico and environmental physiology of oyster reef invertebrates. She is also interested in ecotoxicology, particularly the impact of oil spills on oyster reef fauna.
Professional and Community Activities:
Dr. Hulathduwa has examined the importance of hydrocarbon pollutants, salinity and tidal height in colonization of oyster reefs and the bioenergetics of mud crab species. She has published several articles in peer reviewed journals such as Marine Biology and Marine Environmental Research and has presented her research at national conferences. Dr. Hulathduwa is a member of the North American Benthological Society and Association for Women in Science, (AWIS).
