UT’s Vocal Performance Workshop to Present Baroque Opera Concert Dec. 9

Attention opera lovers! Make plans to be at The University of Tampa on Wednesday, Dec. 9, when the University’s Vocal Performance Workshop will perform scenes from two Baroque operas. The performance, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values at 7:30 p.m.

The program includes scenes from Claudio Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea (Coronation of Poppea) and George Frideric Handel’s Serse (Xerxes). Student singers will perform well-known arias, including “Pur ti miro” (“I Gaze at You”) and King Xerxes’ “Largo” with stylish Baroque embellishment and dance. The ensemble will be accompanied by the UT Chamber Orchestra.

Vocal Performance Workshop is a small auditioned ensemble of mixed voice that performs classical vocal repertoire, including operas, concertos, arias, oratorios and art songs.
