UT to Welcome Guest Speaker Erica Williams Sept. 26

Erica Williams — an ex-political strategist and advocate turned transformational speaker, storytelling trainer and media maker — will be at The University of Tampa on Friday, Sept. 26, to speak to students about how they can use their degree and 21st century digital technology to mobilize change in their communities and throughout the nation.

Williams’ talk, titled Clicks, Likes and Online Social Change, begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Crescent Club on the 9th floor of the Vaughn Center and is free and open to the public.

Williams is part of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Social Media and formerly served as senior strategist at Citizen Engagement Lab. She speaks primarily to Millennials about using technology for civic engagement. Williams is the creator of ColorofChange.org, which seeks to strengthen African-American representation in politics, and UltraViolet, which seeks to fight sexism and expand women’s rights.

Williams was an NAACP 40 under 40 leader, as well as a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, a Case Foundation Social Citizen Ambassador and O Magazine Women’s Rule Leadership Award Winner. She is the co-founder of Progress 2050, a project of the Center for American Progress that develops new ideas for an increasingly diverse America.
