UT Students to Serve Area Nonprofits on Jan. 21

Students, faculty and staff from The University of Tampa will honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 21, with a day of service to the Tampa community. An annual tradition at the University, participants will volunteer their time and energy at four area nonprofits, including:

  • Academy Prep Center of Tampa, 1407 E. Columbus Drive. Students will renovate the school’s garden by laying mulch, digging up weeds and spreading soil.
  • Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful. Clean up and trash removal at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 U.S. Highway 301 N.
More than 85 students have signed up to participate. Volunteers will gather in Fletcher Lounge in Plant Hall at 9 a.m. for orientation and travel by bus to a volunteer location. Participants will be back at the University by noon.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is organized by the PEACE (People Exploring Active Community Experiences) Volunteer Center. For more information, contact Emily Dorso, student coordinator for PEACE, at emily.dorso@spartans.ut.edu.
