UT Students Win CFA Tampa Bay Society Ethics Competition

A team of University of Tampa students won first place in the inaugural CFA Tampa Bay Society Ethics Competition on March 27 at the University Club of Tampa Bay.

Teams from both UT and the University of South Florida competed against each other before a panel of five judges.

The four UT students were invited by the CFA Tampa Bay Society to participate in the first annual Ethics Invitational. The competition was designed by investment professionals to help those entering the financial professions by:

Increasing the awareness of the ethical dilemmas they will face as investment professionals;
Becoming familiar with the CFA Institute’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, which are the ethical benchmark for investment professionals around the globe; and
Practicing how to apply a decision-making framework to aid investment professionals in conducting business with integrity.

The winning team consisted of Meghan Knowles M.S. ’18, Kelly Moore M.S. ’18, Jessica Slain M.S. ’18 and Anthony Viggiano M.S. ’18, with faculty advisors Robert Marley, associate director of UT’s Center for Ethics in Sykes College of Business and assistant professor of accounting, and Marcus Ingram, associate professor of finance.

The CFA Tampa Bay Society is an affiliate of the CFA Institute, which is a nonprofit organization of more than 83,000 Chartered Financial Analysts and investment professionals from more than 120 countries worldwide.
