UT Stages Les Mis Nov. 20–23

Be transported to early 19th century France, as The University of Tampa presents the award-winning musical Les Misérables Nov. 20–23. Show times are 8 p.m. on Thursday–Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23. All performances will be in Falk Theatre, located at 428 W. Kennedy Blvd.

Based on the novel Les Misérables by French poet and novelist Victor Hugo, this sung-through musical was adapted for the stage with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics by Alain Boublil (original French) and Herbert Kretzmer (English translation).

Les Misérables, colloquially known as Les Mis, is the story of Jean Valjean, a peasant in early 19th century France imprisoned for 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread for his sister’s starving child. Finally released on parole, a kindly bishop inspires Valjean to break his parole and start a new life, but he is dogged by a police inspector named Javert and swept up in a rebellion.

More than 20 UT students under the direction of Paul Finocchiaro, assistant professor of theatre, will recreate this poetic tale of love, loss and redemption. Set and lighting design is by Alex Amyot, costume design is by Frank Chavez and stage props are by Jarrid Fox.
