UT Selected to Receive Scholarships for Student Study in Ireland

The University of Tampa has been selected to receive an Institute of International Education’s Generation Study Abroad grant to support new student scholarships for study abroad in Ireland.

UT was selected for this grant based on its progress in offering a wide range of education abroad programming, including summer and semester abroad options, international internships, UT travel courses, and service learning opportunities that incorporate practical, firsthand experience with an academic focus.

Ireland is the ninth most popular study destination overall for U.S. students, according to the Open Doors Report, an annual survey conducted by the Institute of International Education.

The goal of the IIE Generation Study Abroad Scholarships is to help make study abroad opportunities accessible to all students, especially those that are typically underrepresented in U.S. study abroad. In addition to UT, IIE selected 25 other Generation Study Abroad commitment partner colleges and universities to receive its initial round of study abroad scholarships for their students, including Texas A&M University, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of California-Irvine and The Catholic University of America.

UT joined the IIE Generation Study Abroad initiative in November 2014.

“The IIE Generation Study Abroad Scholarships will give more students — and more underrepresented students — the opportunity to gain international experience, which is one of the most important components of a 21st-century education,” said Institute of International Education President and Chief Executive Officer Allan E. Goodman.
