UT Participates in College Goal Sunday to Aid Students with FAFSA

For the third year in a row, The University of Tampa in partnership with the Florida Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, the professional association for financial aid professionals in Florida, will participate in College Goal Sunday, an event designed to assist students and their families with the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid (FAFSA).

Held on Sunday, Feb. 24, from 2¬-5 p.m. on the first floor of the Sykes College of Business, College Goal Sunday is open to the public. Students who attend the event will be entered into a drawing to win a $500 general scholarship.

“UT is participating in College Goal Sunday as a way to reach out to the local community and assist families in gaining access to higher education,” said Jackie LaTorella, director of financial aid. “We want to help students reach their educational goals, no matter which school they choose to attend.”

Students and parents who attend College Goal Sunday should come prepared to complete the entire application with the help of financial aid professionals. To do this, parents should bring their 2012 IRS 1040 forms, their 2012 W-2 forms and any information they might have on investments. This will allow those who are assisting to provide the help needed to complete the forms accurately the first time.

“Many families find completing the FAFSA challenging,” LaTorella said. “Financial aid professionals familiar with the form will be there to make the process easier for families and relieve some of the stress they may feel in completing the form.”
