UT Historian Asks, “Is Trump/Russia Investigation the New Watergate?”

The comparison between Watergate and the present Russia/Trump investigation will be explored by UT Professor of History Terry Parssinen at a presentation on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m.

The presentation will be held in the Music Room at UT’s Plant Hall. The public is welcome to attend this free event.

According to Parssinen, potentially many of the elements of the two investigations are similar: cover-up of illegal activity, engaging in criminal activity to try to fix the result of a presidential election and personality disorders. Yet, there are differences as well: lack of definitive evidence (“smoking gun”), and different political climates.

“As the Trump/Russia investigation unfolds over the next year or two, we are witnessing what will become one of the most important events in American history,” Parssinen said.

Bill Myers, UT assistant professor of political science, will also provide commentary on the topic.

For more information, Parssinen can be reached at (813) 257-3370 or tparssinen@ut.edu.
