UT Dance Happening Features Kinetic Feast April 29-May 2

This year’s Dance Happening at The University of Tampa will feature pieces that explore everything from a challenge dance to dancing for the pure joy of the movement.

The show, which will be held on the evenings of April 29-May 2, begins in the Reeves Theater in the Vaughn Center at UT at 8 p.m.

Always a popular event on campus, Dance Happening features current music and student dancers from all sectors of the University community. This semester’s performances will feature choreography by a record number of seniors, including the first applied dance majors to be graduating from the Dance Program. Dance styles will include hip hop, modern, lyrical and jazz, including the challenge dance that shows ways of coming together over our differences. More than 90 students will participate.

Audra Ament, an applied dance major who is graduating in May, is choreographing her first dance at UT and said that Dance Happening is all about people doing what they love.

“It’s a great way for student dancers and choreographers to express themselves in a very supportive environment,” Ament said. “Plus, it’s such a popular event, and we have so much fun performing for our audiences.”

Susannah LeMarquand, director of Dance Happening and a former UT dancer, said the range of work presented offers something for everyone.

"Dance Happening is simply one of the most unique and exciting performance events you'll experience on a university campus," she said.

Dance Happening is free, but seating is limited. For more information, call (813) 257-3745.
