UT Closed Sept. 7 through Sept. 11 Due to Hurricane Irma

Due to Hurricane Irma, The University of Tampa will close Thursday, Sept. 7, through Monday, Sept. 11. This includes classes, athletic events and all other activities. The Plant Museum will also be closed Thursday through Monday.

All essential campus services, including Dining Services, Campus Safety, Residence Life and Facilities Management, will be maintained, unless the campus is required to evacuate. Dining Services will likely be focused in the Vaughn Center and Morsani Hall. The Office of Residence Life will support community-building experiences in the residence halls. More detailed information will be forthcoming for residential students.

Students should expect communication from the faculty member teaching their classes about any alternative arrangements or changes to the syllabus for missed class meetings, though this may not come until next week when the university re-opens.

Please be vigilant about your personal safety during this time period. If students venture outside and hear the ThorGuard siren (UT's campus lightning detection system), they should seek appropriate shelter. Be mindful of flooded streets and walkways. We strongly discourage risky activities, such as unnecessary travel and storm chasing. Students should avoid coastal waters due to potentially very strong tides and currents.

Please check the UT website, social media and the local media as to when UT will resume normal operations.

The Emergency Operations Team is also monitoring Tropical Storm Jose, which is approximately following in Hurricane Irma’s path. However, computer models currently show no threat to North America.
