UT Announces Lineup for 2014-2015 PNC Bank Concert Artist Series

From the great works of Mozart and other classical composers to world percussion and jazz, The University of Tampa’s 2014-2015 PNC Bank Concert Artist Series at the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values will offer an aural feast for music lovers.

This series of free concerts, sponsored by PNC Bank, has become one of UT’s most anticipated and well-attended events on campus.

“In presenting the fourth season of these concerts as a gift to the Tampa Bay community, our theme this year is to diversify programming and reaffirm our commitment to the musical arts as they grow upon tradition to innovative and fresh expression both old and new,” said Haig Mardirosian, dean of the College of Arts and Letters, concert organist and artistic director of the series.

The series, which is open to the public, includes performances by world percussionist Tom Teasley; organist and director of music for St. Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue in New York City, John Scott; a jazz concert by German organist Lutz Felbick and saxophonist Heribert Leuchter; and a performance by The Thirteen, a professional chamber choir that specializes in the masterpieces of the Renaissance and Baroque.

The concert dates follow. Seating is limited, and doors open 30 minutes before the concerts.

Works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, 2 p.m. A not to be missed opening to the gala season featuring UT faculty Grigorios Zamparas, piano; Ted DeCorso, clarinet; Hein Jung, soprano; and Haig Mardirosian conducting an orchestra of some of the area’s best professional musicians.
Haig Mardirosian, Organist, Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, 2 p.m. Mardirosian will play works of Felix Mendelssohn, Emma Lou Diemer, Alexandre Guilmant, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Edvard Grieg.
Tom Teasley, World Percussionist, Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, 2 p.m. A journey of world music and innovative percussion techniques. Called “a percussionist in the widest and most exuberant sense of the word” (The Washington Post), this critically acclaimed, award-winning artist has traveled the globe, worked with the National Symphony and served as artist-in-residence at the Kennedy Center.
UT Holiday Concert, Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, 2 and 4 p.m. The University of Tampa Holiday Concert will feature traditional and new music of the season performed by the UT Chamber Singers conducted by Director of Choral Studies Ryan Hebert and accompanied by brass and organ.
John Scott, Organist, Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, 2 p.m. Scott, the organist and director of music for St. Thomas Church on Fifth Avenue in New York City and former organist of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, makes his first appearance on the Dobson Organ in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values. Don’t miss this highly acclaimed virtuoso!
Lutz Felbick, Organist, and Heribert Leuchter, Saxophone, Sunday, March 22, 2015, 2 p.m. Felbick, an organist from the faculty of the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Dusseldorf, Germany, teams up with Leuchter, a sax player, composer and producer, for a synthesis of jazz and classical streams with improvisations and composed works.
The Thirteen— Chamber Choir, Sunday, April 12, 2015, 2 p.m. This professional chamber choir, based in the New York City area, specializes in the masterpieces of the Renaissance and Baroque. Matthew Robertson conducts a program of music from Tudor England.
