Leaders of Tampa Bay Sports Commission, Dimmitt Automotive Group and Pané Rustica to Speak at UT April 14

Leaders in the sports tourism, automotive and restaurant industries will share their expertise at the final Business Network Symposium of the 2014-2015 academic year on Tuesday, April 14, at The University of Tampa.

The event begins with a continental breakfast at 7:15 a.m., and the program runs from 7:45–9 a.m. The symposium will be held in the Vaughn Center Crescent Club and is free and open to the public.

The three speakers are Rob Higgins, executive director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission; Karl R. Horst, a retired Army major general and senior leadership executive at Dimmitt Automotive Group; and Kevin and Karyn Kruszewski, husband and wife owners of Pané Rustica.

Higgins has been executive director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission since 2004. In this role, he promotes the development of community sports as well as leads the organization in bidding on and hosting sports and entertainment events.

Horst graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1978 and has served as an aide-de-camp to the Army chief of staff and as special assistant to the NATO supreme allied commander, Europe. His final assignment was chief of staff of U.S. Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base. Following his retirement, Horst joined Dimmitt Automotive Group as the senior leadership executive.

Kevin and Karyn Kruszewski are husband and wife owners of Pané Rustica, a Zagat-rated restaurant and artisan bakery in South Tampa. Kevin is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York City, and Karyn has a finance degree from Bowling Green State University and a background in retail.

The event is hosted by The University of Tampa Board of Fellows and the presenting sponsor is LCG. Other sponsors include the Tampa Bay Business Journal and Sodexo Campus Services.

The Board of Fellows holds this networking event three times a year to allow businesses that are well known, changing or new to the Tampa Bay area the opportunity to share their accomplishments and plans with the business community.

University of Tampa film students will screen their work at the first annual Moon Dance Film Festival at UT’s Reeves Theater on Tuesday, April 14, at 8:30 p.m.

Aaron Walker, assistant professor of communication, said the festival is an opportunity for UT students both to screen their work and to curate the best work of their peers.

“It’s fully student-run, so it shows how deeply the students care about celebrating the strong work of their peers, but also shows how much desire there is for our FMA students to create venues of success for one another,” Walker said. “It’s a terrific collaboration, and will be a terrific party for film. Plus, the movies are great.”

The Sustainable Business Coalition of Tampa Bay Inc. and The University of Tampa Center for Ethics is calling for nominations for their annual Sustainable Business Awards, which will be held on Wednesday, June 10, at The University of Tampa’s Vaughn Center.

Now in its seventh year, the Sustainable Business Awards, sponsored by the Sustany Foundation, recognize and honor for-profit businesses in the Tampa Bay area that engage in practices that increase economic opportunities and improve the environment and community.
