UT Student Featured in Forbes Article about Millennials Changing the World

University of Tampa student Katelyn Edwards ‘15, of Orlando, was featured in a Forbes.com article today that asked the question “What Motivates Millennials To Change the World.”

Edwards, an English major with art and economics minors, began the Smile Initiative, a program that aims to improve the quality of life for children with cleft lip and palate in the developing world, both medically and educationally. Her goal is to evolve the Smile Initiative into the first nonprofit in the world that funds the educations of children living with cleft in the developing world, and, with the help of another nonprofit, Smile Train (smiletrain.org), to raise $250,000 to build a new clinic in Kumasi, Ghana.

The article, written by Forbes contributor Denise Restauri, can be read at http://tinyurl.com/q94g4zf.

Edwards was also featured in a UT profile last summer, http://tinyurl.com/pfjueun.

In addition, Edwards is training to run an Olympic triathlon this spring to raise funds for Smile Initiative, will study social entrepreneurship this fall at Oxford University and was recently awarded honorable mention in the Elie Wiesel National Ethics Essay Contest.
