Career Specialties: Steve Ri Charde’s first position was as an assistant professor who was promoted to associate then full professor of psychology. In 1986, he was made director of assessment, later director of institutional research and assessment at Virginia Military Institute. He held positions ranging from director or associate vice president of institutional research/effectiveness at several institutions, public and private, in Virginia and Florida.
Professional and Community Activities: During his career, Ri Charde engaged in variety of professional and community activities including faculty adviser to a Division I basketball team, faculty adviser to the water polo club, a board member of a concert-theatre series, accreditation adviser to several universities and assessment adviser to a county school board. He was also selected as a consultant to evaluate general-education assessment programs at Virginia Public Institutions by the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia. He continues to serve regularly as a member of on-site accreditation teams for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
