Rick Thomas to Share “Tales of Tenacity” at Next UT Leadership Speaker Series Event Feb. 16

Rick Thomas ’72, president and CEO of Thomas Financial Group, will speak at The University of Tampa on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Trustees’ Board Room on the ninth floor of the Vaughn Center.

Thomas’ presentation, “Never Quit! Tales of Tenacity from the Thames to the Hillsborough,” is part of the Sykes College of Business’ TECO Energy Center for Leadership Speaker Series. The event is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required.

A 1972 UT graduate, Thomas received his CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) designation from the American College in 1975 and founded Thomas Financial that same year. The firm specializes in estate planning and wealth transfer for high net worth individuals and firms, as well as business continuation and executive benefits for both the public and private sectors.

Beginning his career with Protective Life Insurance Co., Thomas qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) after only six months in the industry. MDRT membership is recognized internationally as the standard of excellence in the life insurance and financial services industry. In 1977, Thomas became a charter member of the MDRT Top of the Table and has been the youngest charter member in the world to qualify every year since inception.

Since 1978, Thomas has been a member of the Association of Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU). In addition, he serves as a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals and the Tampa Bay Estate Planning Council. He is involved in many civic and charitable organizations, including the UT Board of Trustees (chair emeritus) and the Outback Steakhouse Inc. Community Foundation.

The TECO Energy Center for Leadership Speaker Series is dedicated to bringing outstanding leaders from the private, government and nonprofit sectors to campus to discuss business topics and corporate strategies with students and members of the community.
