Poets Elizabeth Powell, Christine Poreba to Give Readings at UT Nov. 1

Poets Elizabeth A. I. Powell and Christine Poreba will give readings at The University of Tampa on Tuesday, Nov. 1, as part of the 2016-2017 Writers at the University series. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery on campus and is free and open to the public.

Powell is the author of The Republic of Self, a New Issue First Book Prize winner. Her second book, Willy Loman’s Reckless Daughter: Living Truthfully Under Imaginary Circumstances, won the Robert Dana Prize in poetry and was published by Anhinga Press in 2016. Her work has been published in a number of literary journals, and she won a Pushcart Prize in 2013. She has received a Vermont Council on the Arts grant and a Yaddo fellowship.

Poreba’s first book, Rough Knowledge, was selected by Peter Everwine as the winner of the 2014 Philip Levine Prize and is now out from Anhinga Press. Her poems have appeared in numerous journals, including The Sun, Subtropics, Atlanta Review, Potomas Review, Alimentum, The Southern Review and Verse Daily. She has held residencies at the Ragdale Foundation, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and The Hambridge Center for the Creative Arts.
